About
I’m Sam, and I love exploring.
My favorite things to do are travel around the world, meet new people, discover new places, and learn about other cultures.
I studied Math in college, then I worked a corporate job for 2 years and hated it. After this, I worked as a Math teacher for 6 years in public, charter, and boarding schools all across the US. I have a TON of stories and thoughts from these six years, which I will be writing about on this blog.
When I was teaching, I used my summers and time off to do a lot of travel and backpacking trips. I learned that the biggest impediment to travel for most is time, not money. Travel can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be.
I left teaching because I feel like most of what kids learn in school these days is absolutely useless. If I were creating a school from scratch, I’d keep basically 0% of the current curriculum. Check out some of the things I would teach here. While I love working with kids every day, I didn’t enjoy forcing them to learn things that even I felt were utterly useless – so I don’t think I can do that anymore.
Now, I’m working a remote corporate job and living in Boston, but this time … with a goal, to retire in 6 years by saving and investing a ton of my income. The most valuable things in life are free. As long as I can cover the bare essentials – food, shelter, water – I’ll be good. In the mean time, I plan on documenting my thoughts and experiences here on this blog.
I have a lot of controversial opinions. Some of which I’ll share on this site, some I will not.
My idea of “the dream” is living somewhere with a lot of sun, having a good community to hang out with, and sharing my thoughts and ideas. My hope is that one day I can have all of these things.
